Brothers and Sisters,
The Boilermakers fall 2010 outage season is approaching.
Local 263 has had a busy summer with Common Arc, OSHA safety classes, steward
training etc.
Boilermakers are the best craft. We need Boilermakers to
conduct themselves as professionals no matter where you are working or what
level you are working be it apprentices or journeymen, management or with your
tools on.
We need more of our Boilermakers getting involved as union
members. We need Boilermakers talking to others, calling and emailing our
congressmen and local governing officials about issues that effect our work, our
homes and our families.
Boilermakers need to attend union meetings. Local 263 union
meetings are the first Tuesday each month at 7 PM.
Boilermakers need to register to vote and vote in elections.
Voting is a obligation taken as a Boilermaker member. Voting is a right as an
American citizen. Boilermakers.org has a
great website with much information about LEAP- which list political issues that
effect Boilermakers.
A new national Boilermaker referral system is in process of
being implemented. In order to be on the A-referral list of local the following
will be required:
- OSHA-MOST safety training must be up to date
- OSHA10, Scaffold training, Steel Erection, OSHA 30 must be completed
within 6 month period with the same instructor
- Rigging 4 modules
- Common Arc (non-welders will possibly have to take additional classes)
- MOST drug test current (within past 12 months)
- Dues must not be delinquent
Notice of delinquent dues will no longer be mailed. All
members know that dues are due monthly. If your dues become delinquent it will
cause you not to be sent to work and also cost additional fees to reinstate.
There will be a $25.00 fee for returned checks.
Also, remember there is a chain of command if you are on a
job working you are not to call another local seeking work until after you have
been laid off. If you have sought work with different locals while unemployed
and you go to work you need to give the locals where you sought work a courtesy
call and tell them you have gone to work.
COMMON ARC TEST - Local 455 Muscle Shoals, AL August 30-Sept. 3. Call
256-381-7415 to get scheduled
OSHA 10, Scaffold training, Steel Erection, OSHA 30 - Local 263 August 30-Sept.
2. Call Mike at hall by August 27th to schedule attendance.
Remember that when the new referral system is implemented
that these classes will be required to be on the A-referral list.
